Winterizing Your Rig in 20 Minutes

If there's one maintenance job that separates a good RV season from a very expensive spring, it's winterization. A single hard freeze can crack a water heater, split a line, or ruin a pump, and none of those repairs are cheap.

The three steps that matter

1. Drain every tank: fresh, gray, and black. Don't stop at "mostly empty."
2. Bypass the water heater before you push antifreeze through the lines, or you'll waste several gallons filling a tank you're about to drain anyway.
3. Blow out the lines with low-pressure air, then follow with RV-safe antifreeze until it runs pink at every faucet, the toilet, and the outdoor shower.

What people skip

The icemaker line. The outdoor kitchen. The low-point drains under the belly pan. These are the spots that get missed on a rushed DIY job, and the spots most likely to burst.
